Manufacturing:

Radha TMT bars are manufactured using Sponge Iron to ensure the highest grade of purity and lowest sulfur and phosphorus content. Consistent chemical composition and zero residual stress in the TMT bars increase the ductility and load-carrying capacity of our bars.

Radha TMT Steel Bars undergo a specialized 3-stage manufacturing process involving Thermo- Mechanical Treatment which is at par with global standards.

STAGE 1

The rolled bars are subjected to a specially designed water-cooling system which renders the outer surface of the bars cold while retaining the heat within the core

STAGE 2

The heat from the core of the bar dissipates to the surface creating a temperature gradient in the bars forming Martensitic on the surface while retaining the Ferrite, Pearlite structure at the core. This process is called ‘Self-tempering’ of Radha TMT bars.’

STAGE 3

The unique combination of Ferrite, Pearlite at the center and Martensitic on the surface gives Radha TMT steel bars a higher yield strength coupled with higher elongation and finer ductility.

Technology that gives us strength

LADDLE REFINING FURNACE (LRF)

LRF is used to improve the quality of liquid steel through refining, chemistry adjustment, inclusion modifications, etc. Additional heat is required to carry out these operations. Hence the ladle is provided with a heat source that heats the liquid metal and compensates for thermal losses.

INSIDE THE LADLE REFINING FURNACE

Steel is De-sulphurised and De-phosphorised to meet the stringent quality requirement of TMT bars. Dissolved gases in the steel are lowered through mild purging of inert gases and the metal is also homogenized. Inclusions are removed or altered chemically to ensure high quality of steel.

THERMEX TECHNOLOGY

This denotes a Quenching and Self-Tempering technology, also called QST which was developed by HSE Germany after years of research and field trials. Under this technology, the bars are toughened through Quenching and Self Tempering to ensure uniform quality across the bar.

On further cooling of the bar in the atmosphere, a Thermal Exchange (THERMEX) occurs between the inner and cooled outside Martensite surface whereby the resultant bar structure is a distinct tempered Martensite at the periphery and a fine-grained Ferrite-Pearlite structure in the central zone.

This unique combination of Ferrite-Pearlite at the center and Martensite on the surface gives both strength and flexibility to the bars.

Guide to Choosing TMT Bars for Construction

When constructing a strong and stable building, choosing the right TMT (thermo-mechanically treated) bars is essential. TMT bars provide the backbone of structural strength, so making the right choice is key. This guide helps simplify the process of selecting the right TMT bars for your project.

Understand Your Project Needs

Start by assessing your project’s unique requirements, such as structure type, load-bearing capacity, and environmental conditions. These factors will determine the grade and diameter of TMT bars needed for your build.

Choose the Right TMT Grade

TMT bars come in various grades, such as Fe415, Fe500, and Fe550, each offering different levels of strength and flexibility. Higher-grade TMT bars are ideal for high-strength structures like skyscrapers and bridges. Match the grade to your project’s specific demands.

Verify IS Certification

Ensure the TMT bars you choose are BIS-certified (IS 1786:2008), guaranteeing they meet the required quality standards in terms of chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional accuracy.

Consider Corrosion Resistance

For longer-lasting structures, especially in coastal or humid areas, choose TMT bars with enhanced corrosion resistance, which helps protect against rust and degradation.

Check Bendability and Weldability

If your project involves intricate designs, assess the bendability and weldability of the TMT bars. Quality TMT bars should be flexible enough to bend without losing their strength.

Conclusion

Selecting the right TMT bars is crucial for ensuring the strength and longevity of your structure. By considering your project needs and following this guide, you can make confident decisions that will contribute to the success of your build. Remember, strong TMT bars make for a strong, lasting structure.
